Machol Houston: Norma Szub, Founder
January 28, 2024 | 6:00 pm
7008 S Rice Blvd, Bellaire, Texas 77401 (Bellaire Civic Center)
Norma Szub, founder of Machol Houston, grew up in Cordoba, Argentina, immersed in the traditions of an immigrant Jewish family. Her early and fondest memories are of dancing with her family and community.
She continued to enjoy her love of dancing and music into adulthood. With a move to Houston in the early 1990’s with her family, she joined the local Rikudim (folk dance) scene at the local Jewish Community Center.
Obstacles of hurricanes and pandemics couldn’t keep Norma away from her passion for Rikudim. She generously welcomed fellow dancers to gather in her home to keep the tradition alive. The ability to keep moving and while maintaining social connections was priceless for many.
In September 2021, Norma founded Machol Houston as a personal project hosting weekly Rikudim gatherings in her home and later growing into space at local synagogues.
Machol Houston is a 501c3 Non-Profit organization with the sole mission of preserving, promoting and carrying on our culture and traditions through dance and music.

Ariel Ministries: Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum
March 3, 2024 | 6:00 pm
9001 W Airport Blvd., Houston, Texas 77071 (Congregation Beth Messiah)
Arnold Fruchtenbaum was born in 1943 in Siberia, Russia after his Jewish father— falsely accused of being a Nazi spy when he fled Poland from Hitler — was released from a Communist prison. In February of 1946, the Fruchtenbaum family was allowed to return to Poland. Just a few months later, in the summer of 1946,with the help of the Israeli underground, the Fruchtenbaum family escaped from behind the Iron Curtain to Germany, where they were confined to British Displaced Persons' camps. There, Arnold received Orthodox Jewish training from his father before the family finally immigrated to New York in 1951. Before their release, however, the family was befriended by a Lutheran minister; and it was this contact that eventually led Arnold and his mother to the New York headquarters of the American Board of Missions to the Jews (ABMJ). Five years later, this same meeting brought Arnold, at age 13, to saving knowledge of Jesus the Messiah.
Upon graduating from high school, Arnold was forced by his father to leave home because of his faith. In 1962, he began undergraduate education at Shelton College in New Jersey. Transferring to Ohio's Cedarville College, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hebrew and Greek in 1966. He then moved to Israel, where he studied archaeology, ancient history, historical geography, and Hebrew at the American Institute of Holy Land Studies and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. During this time, he witnessed the historic Six-Day War in 1967. Later that year, Arnold returned to the U.S. and entered Dallas Theological Seminary for studies in Hebrew and Old Testament. He also began working as a missionary with ABMJ (today, Chosen People Ministries).
Arnold met with others in the field of Jewish missions to discuss the problem of the lack of discipleship and the need for intensive biblical and theological training for Jewish believers. The early concepts of Ariel Ministries were born at that time. In December 1977, after a year and a half of prayer and much encouragement from like-minded Jewish believers, Ariel Ministries became a reality.
Arnold continues to serve as a director of the ministry and is in great demand as a conference speaker.
He has traveled widely in Europe, Israel and the United States, becoming intimately acquainted with the messianic movement in all its forms and struggles. The completion of his dissertation, Israelology: The Missing Link in Systematic Theology, was the culmination of 13 years of research for which he earned his Ph.D. at New York University in 1989. Dr. Fruchtenbaum has authored numerous published works and recorded many Biblical studies of keen interest to both Jews and Gentiles.

Christian Friends of Israeli Communities (CFOIC): Kim Troup, US Director
April 7, 2024 | 6:00 pm
9001 W Airport Blvd., Houston, Texas 77071 (Congregation Beth Messiah)
Kimberly Troup was born in California, but moved to rural Kentucky at the age of 7. She was brought up in a Christian home and was home-schooled from 1984 – 1993, a home-school pioneer! From a very young age, her parents imbued her with Christian values which included a deep love of God and a great interest and respect for the Jewish people. The first time Kim actually met a Jew in person was as a young woman, but the truths about God’s chosen people that were planted in her since early childhood played a major role in her life-long passion for Israel.
Kim moved to Colorado at the age of 18 to care for her ailing grandmother. In 1996, she moved to Colorado Springs to attend Charis Bible College, from which she graduated with a ministerial license in 1998. She joined Christian Friends of Israeli Communities in March of 1998, as a ministry coordinator, and in 2002, became the director of the US office.
Kim is passionate about Israel and committed to the settlement movement. Her faith in God’s promises to Israel fuel her passion and initiative as the leader of CFOIC Heartland’s North American office. She also shares truths that she has gleaned from God’s Word about His people through speaking engagements and articles.
